Mobile veterinary offers low-cost vaccines and preventative care for pets

CLAY COUNTY — Down Home Veterinary Wellness wants to make being a pet-parent easier.

On July 21, the licensed and fully mobile veterinary center will be making a stop in three areas of the county to offer low-cost vaccines and preventative care for your feline and furry friends.

The veterinary center will be able to provide vaccinations for rabies, Bordetella, Leptospirosis and Feline leukemia virus. Owner Chelsea Spieth said the vaccinations can be grouped through one of their vaccine packages or done a la carte for each pet.

All vaccines also come with a free exam.

Additionally, the clinic will be offering flea and heartworm prevention care. Spieth said all of their prevention is prescription-based, meaning that it is required owners provide a yearly doctor's exam to purchase.

All products containing heartworm prevention also require a heartworm test, as well. If you are in need of a test, Spieth said they can provide one same day for $25.

The veterinary center also has a small pharmacy to deal with minor skin, ear or eye issues.

Microchipping will be available, but they will not be offering x-rays or bloodwork.

"We offer just general wellness care to make sure that people's pets are remaining healthy for an affordable amount of money," Spieth said.

The first stop will be Meineke Car Care Center in Green Cove Springs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Crackers Lounge and Package on Blanding Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Law Office of Romanello also on Blanding Boulevard from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The veterinary center also provides at-home care for those with four or more pets on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Spieth said that she and co-owner Dr. Alicia Gutierrez have been running the mobile business since earlier this year. They service many other counties within Northeast Florida, including Nassau, Baker and St. Johns.

Spieth said the two have seen the struggles that it takes for some to give their pets the proper care due to the high costs.

"Everybody deserves to own a pet. It shouldn't be something that's left only for the wealthy, only for people of high status," Spieth said.

Spieth said the business wants to make sure that people are able to afford to have animals and still be able provide them with the necessities that they need.

"We just want to make sure that people can afford to have these animals and still properly be able to take care of them," Spieth said. "Without having to spend over $100 just to walk through the door of a brick and mortar clinic."

The clinic will be on a first come, first serve basis and their stops in the county happen the third Sunday of every month
