ORANGE PARK – An alert from a license plate reader camera for a stolen car led Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies to a Jacksonville man who was arrested for drugs and an illegal handgun and an Elkton woman for drugs and stealing a car on July 11.

Christopher Andrew Thornton, 29, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun by a convicted felon after deputies spotted the car at Zen Living Suites Extended Stay on Eldridge Avenue. The driver was Havana Hockenberry and the passenger was Thornton. A deputy found a handgun in Thornton’s right front pocket. Deputies also found the drugs, a used syringe, burnt foil and a glass pipe on the passenger seat.

His bond is $32,760.

Hockenberry, 33, was charged with grand theft auto and possession of lorazepam. Her bond is $35,006.
