Science fiction writer H.G. Wells said, “The doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven, which was the main teaching of Jesus, is certainly one of the most revolutionary doctrines that ever stirred and changed human thought.”

Heaven is a topic that everyone thinks about and many talk about. Have you ever wondered what heaven will be like? We’ve seen so many interpretations over the years that our minds can be filled with all kinds of images such as clouds, halos and the like. Here is what the scripture says heaven will truly be like.

Revelation chapter 21 gives us great insight to Heaven. Verse 1 says “the sea was no more”. In the Old Testament, the sea was often seen as a symbol of disorder and chaos. A world with no sea signifies a place of permanence and stability. In heaven, there won't be any uncertainty or chaos, just as God's promises are unwavering.

Verse 1 also speaks of "a new heaven and a new earth." This means everything will be renewed, restored to its original, perfect state. Think of a world untouched by decay, where suffering doesn't exist, and everything is as God originally intended.

The most beautiful promise is in verse 3: "God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God." Heaven is where God and His people come together in perfect harmony. It's not a distant place; God's presence is intimate and shared.

In verse 4 we see, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." This is the heart of heaven's promise – no more sadness, suffering, or death. It's a place where scars are healed, tears turn to joy, and pain is replaced with peace.

So, what will heaven be like? It's a place of incredible beauty, free from suffering, and where God is always present. It's a world made new, and Revelation 21:1-5 gives us a simple but wonderful glimpse into this heavenly reality. In the midst of life's challenges, heaven shines as our ultimate hope and destination, reminding us of the incredible promise awaiting those who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.
