Faith is a decision to believe. While our faith is deeply spiritual, it starts with the mental determination to believe.

There are innumerable questions that can be asked that discourage faith. One must make the determination that he will believe.

It is not “blind faith.” But it is also not based on human reason or “intellectual honesty” or answers to every question formulated by our impotent logic.

“Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Early in my Christian life, I had to decide that I was going to believe God rather than depend on learning enough to rationally answer the questions that were posed by my own inner thoughts as well as the unbelief of others. It was a question I had to answer. Will I believe God? That verse above from Hebrews was my real answer.

All the plans and actions of God are supernatural. And they are all doubted, questioned and challenged by human reasoning.

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing…” (1 Cor. 1:18) The mind or man does not accept the message of the cross. To the world that message is God’s foolishness. But to those of us who believe, that message is the very power of God.

The faith of many crumbles at the manger unable to believe the supernatural action that is the virgin birth. But that the earthly life of Jesus would begin with a supernatural miracle is exactly in accord with God’s entire plan. The Christian message is supernatural and from beginning to end it must be accepted by faith!

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” (Hebrews 11:1 ESV)

This is the final result of faith. “This is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (I John 5:4)
