Woman arrested for getting into car left running in parking lot
MIDDLEBURG – A homeless woman was arrested on Sept. 13 for trying to take a car left running in a convenience store parking lot.
Shelby Leigh Clark, 49, was charged with armed robbery and grand theft auto after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy said she got into a BMW that was left running with the keys in the ignition while she was inside the store. When the owner returned, she found Clark inside the car.
The victim said she didn’t find anything missing from the car after Clark left the scene.
When deputies stopped Clark, she said she got into the car “because she wanted to get out of here.” She also told CCSO she was having premonitions that something bad was going to happen.
Clark was charged with armed robbery since she had a knife.
Her bond was set at $15,006.
