FLEMING ISLAND – When the five owners of Whitey’s Fish Camp turned the responsibilities for the 21st Annual Lighted Boat Parade to their children, the third generation didn’t disappoint. Led by Danielle Lawley, Peyton Guidi and Alex Ham, the iconic restaurant, founded in 1963 by Whitey and Ann Hamm, at Swimming Pen Creek collected $25,532 for the Safe Animal Shelter. Guidi, Safe Executive Director Sandy Summerton, Lawley and Ham celebrated the check presentation on Friday, Jan, 5. “We wanted to see if our parents could relinquish control of the parade,” Ham said. “We set a goal of $30,000. We were ambitious and naïve. We’ll make it next year.” The $30,000 goal was ambitious, considering the most money collected for the benefit was $20,000 in 2020. “Whitey’s has been a great supporter of ours for years,” Summerton said. “We will use this money for surgeries like spaying, neutering, and dental. We don’t have a veterinarian on staff, so we have to send them out.”
