Stotler top-ranked twice in state swims

GREEN COVE SPRINGS - Clay High junior swim specialist Sara Stotler is currently ranked at the top of Class 2A after region swim championships ended this weekend and swimmers head to the state swimming and diving championships in Stuart on Fri.-Sat., Nov. 8-9.

Stotler, the defending 100 butterfly champion, got the top times in the state in the 100 fly at 54.30 as well as the 200 individual medley at 2:02.18. Both times are nationally ranked times.

For the 200 IM, Stotler holds a two second advantage over the second fastest time of regions; a 2:04.73 from Pine Crest freshman Julia Podkoscielny and a five second edge on number three; Nicole Rodriguez, a junior from Cape Coral High.

In the 100 fly, Stotler also holds a two second gap with her 54.30 on top of runnerup Blair Stoneburg of Jensen Beach's 56.58 and third ranked Isabelle Sealey of Satellite who clocked a 56.73. Ocala Vanguard junior Sarah Milbrandt had a third sub-57 split at 56.77.

Also advancing for the Blue Devils with their rank is Sam Bement in the 200IM (24th), the girls 200 medley relay (9th) and the girls 200 free relay (10th).

For Orange Park High School, 200 freestylers Daniel Hinkle and Jose Medina will make the trip with the pair ranked 15th and 16th; 1:47.82 and 1:47.95, with the top time at 1:42.29. Medina is eighth ranked in the 100 freestyle with is region top time of 48.84 in a tie with Arnold's Shane McEliece for the region title. Top time is 46.52. Hinkle is 10th ranked in the 500 free at 4:50.29 with the top time at 4:40.46.

For Ridgeview High School, freshman diver Arden Jackson, second in her region, is ranked seventh with a 401.70 point total. Top diver is at 498.70.

Ridgeview High senior Michael Johnson is 24th ranked in the 100 free with his 50.22 split. Johnson is also ranked 20th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:02.56. Top time is 57.75.

Results District 2-1A to regions (SJCDS): To Regions (rank in region): Girls 200 medley relay (9th); Boys 200 medley relay (10th); Mary Beth Garrison 200 free (21st); Hunter Hopkins 200IM (16th); Courtney Sage 50 free (9th); Stuart Mackenzie 50 free (16th); Ethan Albright 100 fly (22nd); Courtney Sage 100 free (14th); Girls 200 free relay (9th); Boys 200 free relay (11th); Stuart Mackenzie 100 backstroke 17th); Hunter Hopkins 100 backstroke (23rd); Amelia Dyer 100 breaststroke (21st); Luke Robinson 100 breaststroke (24th); Girls 400 free relay (8th); Boys 400 free relay (15th).

Bolles hosted the region 1-1A championship meet on Wed., Oct. 30 at Cecil Field Aquatic Center. Top two finishers automatically advance with remaining 22 slots filled by fastest times. Top 16 relay squads advance. St. Johns had no state meet qualifiers.
