Sheriff Cook returns to defend Chili Cookoff title
Proceeds to benefit Signal 35 Fund to help first responders
FLEMING ISLAND – First responders vowed to bring the heat during the Second First Responders Chili Cookoff on Sunday, Nov. 5, at Whitey’s Fish Camp.
Members of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue, Orange Park and Green Cove Springs Police Department, Orange Park Fire Department and the Clay County District Schools Police Department will bring their homemade recipes to the restaurant for a 2 p.m. tasting, with the winning chili earning a trophy – and bragging rights.
Sheriff Michelle Cook is the defending champion.
This year’s event will benefit the Signal 35 Fund, which assists first responders.
The cookoff will be limited to 20 entries, and residents are encouraged to join the festivities. It costs $10 to taste as many chilis as you want – and as many times – and everyone will have a vote toward the winning recipe.
There also will be a silent auction, bake sale and a 50/50 raffle.
