Annual event at fairgrounds a prelude to October's Scottish Athletics Masters World Champions
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – More than 1,000 revelers, many in kilts, attended Saturday’s Northeast Florida Scottish Games and Festival at the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Even those not sporting kilts or speaking with a brogue accent were able to enjoy an afternoon of athletics, including traditional caber tosses, sheaf and hammer throw, weight over bar tosses and one-handed weight tosses for distances.
Despite the shutdown of County Road 218 from Henley Road to State Road 16, vendors said this year’s crowd was one of the best. The event in Clay County has become so popular the Foundation for Scottish Athletics selected the fairgrounds for its Scottish Athletics Masters World Championships on Oct. 5-6.
