CLAY HILL – The Clay County Sheriff’s office found human remains on Tuesday, July 12, in a wooded area with the assistance of K-9 cadaver dogs from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Multiple first responders from Clay County Fire Rescue, Clay County Emergency Management, Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department and the Clay County District Schools Police Department searched a wooded area off of Violet Way for missing Baker County woman Claire Luscombe who was reported missing on June 29.
The remains were found in a wooded area near where Luscombe’s SUV was located. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office began investigating this case and searching the area on Saturday, July 9, after receiving a 911 call from a citizen who was horseback riding in the wooded area and found an SUV, later determined that of Claire Luscombe.
The identity of the remains’ have not been confirmed, but CCSO is investigating the case as an undetermined death although there are no signs of foul play noted at this time.
The Jacksonville Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death and confirm the individual’s identity.

Two killed, one seriously injured on Clay County roadways on July 9

CLAY COUNTY – A program to bring awareness to traffic violations and deadly crashes was unveiled on July 1 by Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook.
The message came too late for two local residents on Saturday, July 9.
Two were killed and a boy was seriously injured in separate accidents, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
It started shortly after 8:30 a.m. in Orange Park when a 19-year-old Green Cove Springs man was killed on his motorcycle when a 67-year-old man from Green Cove Springs turned left off U.S. Highway 17 onto Holly Point Road and into the teenager’s path.
The carnage continued shortly after noon when a 15-year-old Keystone Heights boy was struck by an SUV when he was riding his bicycle on County Road 209 near Ravenwood Drive.
According to FHP, the boy was riding northbound in the southbound lane when he veered into the path of an SUV driven by a 35-year-old woman. He sustained serious injuries.
A second life was lost at 9:40 p.m. when a 31-year-old woman from Jacksonville was driving eastbound on State Road 16 near Camp Blanding when her SUV crossed the center line, ran onto the shoulder and overturned.
Cook’s social media message on July 1 asked drivers to submit reasons why they safe driving is important. The program is called “Your Reason.”
“What is your reason for wanting safe driving in Clay County?” Cook asked.
Cook said there are more than 1,200 miles of roadways in the county. She also said her agency has made 12,000 traffic stops which resulted in more than 9,000 citations.
She also said 14 people have been killed on county roads since Jan. 1. Those numbers grew by two eight days later.
