Man charged with killing his mother, leaving her in garage for months
MIDDLEBURG – A local man was charged with second degree murder May 13 for shooting his mother in the head with a shotgun and leaving her body wrapped in plastic in the garage for more than two months.
Cameron Wesley Kirk, 41, of Middleburg, told Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies he argued with his mother on March 1 and punched her in face and head until she collapsed in the doorway of her bedroom. He then used the gun to kill her.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to check on Paula Kirk after a neighbor said she hadn’t seen her friend since March. When the deputy arrived and talked with Cameron Kirk, he noticed the distinct odor of human decomposition.
CCSO obtained a warrant and found the mother’s remains on the garage floor. Cameron Kirk said he moved his mother’s body to a spare bedroom for a couple days before putting it in the garage.
Kirk remains in the Clay County Jail without bond.
Union boss charged with shooting wife three times in Oakleaf
OAKLEAF – The president of the union that represents bus drivers in Jacksonville was arrested for shooting his estranged wife three times on May 13.
Dwayne Maurice Russell, 47, was charged with attempted second-degree murder after deputies found his wife, Mildred, shot in the neck, chest and stomach.
The woman told police her husband shot her.
Russell turned himself into the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was brought back to Clay.
Deputies were called to their home on May 9 for a domestic disturbance. Russell was given an injunction for protections on May 11. He came back to the house to gather some personal belongings, including a .380 handgun that he used to shoot his wife, CCSO said.
He remains in the Clay County Jail without bail.
Middleburg man busted with child pornography on his cellphone
MIDDLEBURG – A man was arrested for possessing child pornography on his cellphone following several tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
James Bradbury Lord, 52, of Middleburg, was charged on May 13 with three counts of having photos of three nude girls believed to be about 12-13 years old.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children identified more than 2,400 images on is IP address.
Lord was held on a $75,009 bond.
Man charged with choking girlfriend, threatening deputies
ORANGE PARK – Residents alerted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office of a loud disturbance at a local apartment complex, where deputies found a woman who showed signs of being choked during an argument.
Dylan Nathaniel Robertson, 20, of Orange Park, was charged with felony battery by strangulation and three counts of battery on a police office after CCSO was preparing to smash a window to gain entrance.
According to the arrest report, deputies heard the disturbance when they arrived to the complex and several residents were pointing to the unit. They ordered the couple to unlock the front door and a man inside continually yelled “no.” The victim managed to open the door and run to safety.
Deputies said she had blood on her left ear and side of her face. As deputies entered, Robertson ran into the kitchen and grabbed a “large chef’s knife.” He eventually surrendered.
The victim said the argument started over a dog.
Seatbelt violation leads to weapon, drug arrest
ORANGE PARK – Sheriff’s Office deputies found a firearm, drugs and paraphernalia in a car May 13 after the driver was stopped for not wearing his seatbelt.
Corey Lee Love, 26, of Middleburg, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of fentanyl, needles, scale and a grinder after the driver was stopped for the seatbelt violation.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies used K-9 Ory to sniff the car for illegal drugs. They found the drugs, along with a handgun that was reported stolen in Jacksonville under a baby’s car seat.
