FLEMING ISLAND – An alert Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy learned the driver ahead of him on U.S. Highway 17 and County Road 220 had a suspended license, and that quickly spun into three drug charges on Jan. 21.
Deven Tyler Duncan, 30, of Middleburg, was charged with possession of marijuana, crack cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as possessing a handgun as a convicted felon.
The deputy noticed a marijuana joint in Duncan’s ashtray during the stop. K-9 Odin later indicated the presence of drugs in the car. They found the drugs and a gun hidden under the driver’s seat, center console and in a backpack.
Duncan was convicted of trafficking fentanyl in 2020 and sale or delivery of fentanyl in 2022.
His bond was set at $46,011.
