GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Clay County Animal Services will receive a $50,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for pets in Clay County. This lifesaving investment will help CCAS build a new animal shelter.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $375 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations – like ours – across North America, with 6.75 million pets adopted and counting.
“Our investment in Clay County Animal Services is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses patented image-recognition technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous lifesaving investment from Petco Love to Clay County Animal Services,” said Clay County Animal Services Director Ernest Hagan. “This grant will help make our new animal shelter a reality, which will in turn increase our capacity and our resources so we can help save more lives.”
Clay County Animal Services is a nonprofit organization that provides temporary housing and care for dogs and cats, including owner-relinquished pets in Clay County. Since the 1960’s, CCAS has provided lifesaving services for pets through its small team of dedicated professionals and the resources available. The growth that has happened since then in Clay County underscores the urgency of this new facility. The team members at CCAS, made up of both paid and volunteers, go all out to do the best that they can with what they currently have every day, to ensure that the pets in their care receive the best care possible.
Some of CCAS’ accomplishments are winning the FACA Outstanding Cooperative Team Achievement Award in 2022 when they conducted a joint investigation and large-scale seizure of 266 animals from an animal cruelty case. They also provided sterilization surgery, vaccinations, and microchips for 333 dogs. These accomplishments were achieved on top of the shelter requirements that this team conducts daily.
