Paul Wane’s life took an incredible turn on Jan. 8 when he delivered a riveting Star Spangled Banner guitar solo before the Jacksonville Jaguars-Tennessee Titans regular-season finale.

Not only did it garner him national acclaim, including stories in Guitar World and USA Today, it also aligned him with businesses supporting his music.

With help from sources like Morgan and Morgan, Wane had enough money to take his Duval County Line on an 18-state, 21-day tour, with an additional stop in Washington, D.C.

“I had $500, so I said, ‘Let’s go.’ Man, we had a blast,” Wane said.

The tour’s highlight was an invitation to play with the house band at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The “Freedom Tour” also included five nights at Sturgis, South Dakota, where rock legends like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke, 38 Special, Foghat, Molly Hatchet, Great White, ZZ Top, Limp Bizkit and Styx have performed during the town’s annual motorcycle rally.

Wane took his iconic U.S. flag-decorated guitar and the No. 23 jersey the Jaguars gave him on stage for every show.

The group returned in time to play at Food Truck Friday at Spring Park in Green Cove Springs last week. In what’s become customary, Wane presented a girl with a guitar as part of his Guitars for Kids program.

“We created another Rising Star,” Wane said. “That’s the coolest thing I do.”
