MIDDLEBURG – A man being questioned for overly-tinted windows wound up going to jail after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed a single denomination bill containing methamphetamine folded tightly into a square pressed between two credit cards while Jason Edward Peek, 44, of Middleburg, was looking for his driver’s license.
Peek was charged with possession of methamphetamine and a firearm by a convicted felon on Jan. 18.
The deputy noticed Peek’s windows at a gas station on Blanding Boulevard. He waited for Peek to drive away after realizing the defendant wasn’t leaving while the deputy’s car was there. Peek was stopped in his driveway, and the deputy saw the unusual-folded bill. “Due to my training and experience this is a common way illegal drugs are concealed,” was included in the arrest report. The deputy called for assistance from the K-9 unit, and the dog alerted them to the likely presence of an illegal substance. When the deputy searched Peek’s credit cards, the folded money was missing, but it was found under some napkins in a fast food bag.
Deputies also found a loaded semi-automatic .22 caliber long rifle on the floor. Peek was convicted of possessing a controlled substance in 2018 and possessing methamphetamine and a firearm during the commission of a felony in 2020.
Peek’s bond is $65,006.
