New looks in Ridgeview vs. Indians

Ridgeview at Keystone Heights

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Keystone Heights High has a new football head coach, Steve Reynolds, the former defensive coach, which will create an invisible image of long-time coach Chuck Dickinson growling on the sidelines, though he will probably be on the track watching in athletic director golf cart.

For Ridgeview, who visits Keystone Height Fri., Aug. 18 for preseason action, the new look is a much bigger roster.

Panther coach Bryan Arnette has been lauding the progress of his team to include a handful of much bigger bodies than he has had in past seasons; both 1-9 finishes.

"This season we have some big guys on both sides of the ball; Jacob Jones on offense/defense line (250 lbs.) and JJ Moore at tight end (220 lbs) will bolster our attack," said Arnette.

Among the biggest for Arnette is offensive tackle Jacob Jones at 6'-4", 235 lbs., 250-pound fullback Braylon Hawkins, 200-pound senior running back Rayhn Hutchinson, and 220-pound tight end and defensive end J.J. Moore.

"Ten seniors and a few bigger guys and we can be a bit more competitive on the line of scrimmage," said Arnette, noting new faces in Bailey Reese (315 lbs) and Elias Cortes (237 lbs.).

When the word big comes into play, Keystone Heights' history at offensive line is always very big guys. This year, the "very" big guys from last year, mostly underclassmen, are not one-year veterans and are still very big; Bryce Daniels (275 lbs), Tyler Duncan (325 lbs), and Jackson Faul (245 lbs.).

"We want to keep the Indian tradition of strong up front and heavy running but think we can stretch defenses with a bit of air offense," said Reynolds.

Reynolds has a solid running back in Cartez Daniels; big and strong like Hutchinson, and that could be a Marquis matchup to watch. Both quarterbacks are kind of new; sophomore Bailey Ford was last year's signal caller with main handoffs, while Ridgeview has newcomer Travon Malone in. Malone is a big, strong basketball athlete that looks like he has a good field presence in the Panthers' spring games against Keystone Heights and Santa Fe.

On defense, Hunter Creech and JJ Moore are attackers for Ridgeview with Jayden Goodman and Trey Jeffries on the attack front for Keystone Heights. Keystone Heights safety senior Wyatt Van Zant is a great cover man and gets to the ball very quickly for tackles.
