ORANGE PARK - Nease High School has had its share of great cross country and track runners with Oregon freshman Rheinhard Harrison one of the top runners in the nation as a high schooler still holding the course record for the Bob Hans Memorial Cross Country Invitational held at Ridgeview High School

On Saturday, in the 2023 version, Nease dominated again with the top five finishers all from the Nease High boys team led by overall champion Matt Ryan in 16 minutes, three seconds.

"This team may be the best team from one through five that we have ever had," said Nease coach Ted Devos. "In the past, we have had great ones and twos, but this team has equal talent from three to five. That wins tournaments."

With Nease executing a cross-country shutout with 15 points, Ponte Vedra chased for second with 43 points with Miles Wicks in the sixth overall spot.

Bishop Kenny finished third at a distant 145 points.

In the girl's race, Ponte Vedra proved Devos' point with the Lady Sharks capturing the top three spots led by Daisy Ross's 19:18 finish and two teammates just 10 seconds behind.

Bishop Kenny gave chase with 36 points to the Sharks winning 32 with Nease third at 91.

Locally, St. Johns Country Day School's Rebecca Stratton was the top area finisher for the girls

in 14th place in 21:29 just ahead of Clay's Erika Martinez in 16th in 21:33. Third local was Oakleaf's Morgan Wade in 36th in 22:28.

For the boys, Oakleaf's Grant Keppel was the top area finisher in 25th place in 18:07 with Clay's Jacob Sanders just six seconds behind Keppel. Keystone Heights' Tyler Griffin edges Orange Park's Ty Obermeyer for the third spot with an 18:41 37th to Obermeyer's 18:42 for 38th.

In the boys teams' scores, Ridgeview finished seventh, Oakleaf was 10th, Keystone Heights was 12th, Orange Park was 13th, St. Johns was 14th, Clay was 15th, and Middleburg was 20th.

For the girls, St. Johns was 7th, Oakleaf was ninth, Ridgeview was 10th, Clay was 12th and Middleburg was 15th.
