DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern women's track team opened up action at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic Friday afternoon with six new top-10 all-time records while the Moccasins swept the podium in the final event of the evening, the 10,000m. The one-two-three finish accounted for the second, third and fifth-best times in program history in the 10K.
Junior Emma Mussante, junior Mya Stam and graduate student Cheyenne Young went one-two-three in the 10,000m late Friday night. Mussante, a Middleburg High graduate, was the first to cross the line as she earned the second-fastest time in program history at 37:02.89. Stam stopped the clock just under four seconds later at 37:06.11 for the third-ranked all-time mark while Young came across in 37:25.66 to take third in the race and fifth in the FSC record book.
In the 1500, Fleming Island High graduate Marisa Kortright clocked a 5:24.35 split for 51st place.
In the men's 800, Keystone Heights High graduate Alex Guy, a graduate student at Florida Southern, finished in 1:53.11 to finish sixth overall with teammate Anthony Matthew fifth in 1:52.98, to post the sixth fastest time in Mocs' track program history.
