GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A day filled with a wide variety of family-fun events including a motorcycle and jeep poker run, two-person tactical teams, active shooter room clearing, weapons station, axe throwing, max deadlift competition and more will be at Boogerville Hideout on Saturday.
The second annual Veteran Games is organized by Operation Barnabas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans and first responders get back on their feet. This event is for everyone who loves supporting veterans.
“Anybody of any age will be able to join,” said Rayland Heck, the lead officer of Operation Barnabas. “There will be ax throwing, arm wrestling, paintball, a dunk tank, the bench and deadlift. Each one is five dollars, pay to play. There will also be live music from Big Engine, food by the Grub Brothers and a patriotic ceremony with a flyover at 3 (p.m.). It’s just a fun experience throughout the day.”
All proceeds will go towards helping warriors get the care and attention that they have earned and deserve.
“This is a family event. Yes, we are going to have crazy amounts of fun. However, the money raised will not just be a bandaid for a few moments. Hearts are being impacted. Lives are being changed,” Heck said. “Let's all be for a veteran. Be an encouragement with us in your community. Take action and join us.”
The event will also spotlight several stories from veterans who overcame obstacles in their lives and achieved success. For more veteran stories, see “Operation Barnabas Makes Veterans Whole: Stories of Perseverance.”
“We are not raising funds to fund an event, we’re raising awareness,” said Heck. “We’re building relationships through listening to people’s stories is actually changing lives right here in our community. We are not a charity showcasing victims to pluck at your heartstrings. We have real testimonies of lives being changed. Listen to just one veteran victor’s story.”
