KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – In 2016, Clay Electric Cooperative implemented Operation Round Up to improve the lives of the communities they serve. The program was designed to allow locals to round up to the nearest dollar when paying their Clay Electric bill. Any extra amount that Clay Electric receives goes towards its grants to organizations that focus on community service, education, youth and disaster relief.

Continuing the project’s goal, Clay Electric recently awarded the Junior Woman’s Club of Keystone Heights the Clay Electric Round Up Grant.

“It’s a huge honor,” said club president Brooklyn Hayes-Yelin. “There’s a lot of applicants. So, it’s very exciting, and we are very honored to be able to receive this.”

As part of their ongoing project since last year, the Junior Woman’s Club plans to use the $6,500 grant to improve their building.

“We will be able to improve our building, and expand on what we’ve already done so far. We already painted and cleaned the place up as much as we can,” Hayes-Yelin said.

The group plans to host a meeting to discuss how the money will be used toward remodeling.

The club was founded in 2022 as a branch of the Woman’s Club of Keystone Heights.

“We are the next generation of the Woman’s Club. We saw a gap, and we wanted to be able to continue their legacy,” Hayes-Yelin said.

As a service-based group, the Junior Woman’s Club is heavily involved in its community. They host community events such as fall and spring festivals. In addition, they hosted a golf tournament to raise money for scholarships and have participated in the Boo on the Boulevard and the Christmas Parade.

“We try to do as much as we can in the community, with the schools, with the kids, and just wherever we see a need,” Hayes-Yelin said.
