JAMES ROY STUDDARD

JAMES ROY STUDDARD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 10, 2024. James was born in Cherokee County, Alabama, on July 9, 1940, and grew up in Clanton, Alabama. After graduating from the University of Alabama, James married his college sweetheart, Carol Young, in 1964; they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 19 of this year. James ultimately settled with his family in Orange Park, Florida, in 1979. James enjoyed a lengthy career with Motors Insurance Corporation, a subsidiary of General Motors. James was an active member of Orange Park United Methodist Church beginning in 1979. James enjoyed working with the James Boys organization at the church to build wheelchair ramps for those in need. In addition to his wife, Carol Young Studdard, James is also survived by his three daughters, Laura Carol Studdard, Leigh Studdard Scales (Jeff), and Amy Studdard Walker (Brent Davis); grandchildren Hannah Scales, Grant Scales, Kaley Walker, and Morgan Walker; sister Jearlyne Hargrove, brother-in-law Fred Thompson, sister-in-law Debbie Guenther (Paul), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, John Roy and Gillie Studdard, and his sister, Shelby Thompson.  A Celebration of James’s life will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 at Orange Park United Methodist Church, 2051 Park Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts be made in James’s memory to either The James Boys organization at Orange Park Methodist Church or to the Orange Park Methodist Church Music Ministry.
