Heidi White doesn’t waste time enjoying first day of Fair

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – As the Greatest Fair Fan, Heidi White was already guaranteed to be in front of the line when the Clay County Agricultural Fair opened on Day 1 Thursday.

But that didn’t matter.

She, her husband David, and daughter Micheal Griffin were first to arrive at the Clay County Fairgrounds to be the first through the gates.

“We got here at noon,” Micheal said. “We are part of opening day ceremonies, but we love the Fair so much, we wanted to get here early. It’s a family tradition for us.”

Heidi took her vacation at Walmart to visit the Fair as often as possible during its 11-day run. She said her first stop was the livestock barn.

“I like to look at the cows and see all the animals,” she said. “I like to see if any of them have had babies. And, of course, I want to get a footlong corn dog. That’s one of my favorite things about the Fair.”

Heidi said that what makes the fair so special is the family atmosphere. She likes the variety of rides, but she’s equally impressed with the agriculture displays, animals, music and food.

“I can bring my grandkids here and not worry about them,” she said. “I love the family atmosphere. You can have fun and not worry about a thing.”

The Fair is open daily through April 14.
