GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A 42-year-old man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Green Cove Springs Police Department said he started a fire on the back porch of his house before barricading himself in a bedroom.
Gary Warren Gill, of Green Cove Springs, was charged with arson and resisting law enforcement after the police and fire rescue responded on Aug. 12 to the fire, according to the arrest report. An anonymous caller reported the fire at 3:21 a.m. When they arrived, they found Gill hiding behind a closed door. They also heard him stack things to block the door from opening.
Investigators said they determined the fire was intentionally set.
Once inside, Gill briefly wrestled with law enforcement before being detained.
Gill’s bond was set at $85,005.
