Easter proved to be unusually difficult day for local law enforcement

CLAY COUNTY – While many residents were celebrating Easter by attending church or hunting Easter eggs on Sunday, members of law enforcement were having an unusually difficult day.

According to arrest reports, there were four cases of assault and battery against deputies or police officers and five cases of resisting arrest – one with violence.

It started at 1:20 a.m. near the Silo’s Shoppes of Middleburg on County Road 200 in Middleburg when the Clay County Sheriff’s Office stopped Johnny Angel Perez, 25. That escalated into a to a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting a law enforcement officer with violence and a simple battery charge.

Fifteen minutes later, Desiree Stephanie Zapata, 32, was stopped for suspicion of driving under the influence in the 2500 block of Blanding Boulevard in Middleburg. CCSO said she resisted, obstructed and opposed orders before being arrested.

At 5:03 p.m., deputies responded to a trespassing call near PCN Bank on County Road 220 on Fleming Island. Marcel Anthony Anderson, 36, wound up being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting, obstructing and opposing law enforcement.

Raymond Scott-Ashton Drawdy, 27, was charged with assaulting a CCSO deputy in Keystone Heights at 11:37 p.m. in the 6300 block of Bassar Drive. He was also charged with resisting, obstructing and opposing law enforcement and possessing drug paraphernalia.

And, just before midnight, Rashaud Lynn Blandburg, 45, was charged with battery on a sheriff’s deputy and resisting with violence after he was being questioned about possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana.
