The curbside collection of recyclables in unincorporated Clay County and the City of Keystone Heights was suspended on Aug. 16, 2021, due to the nationwide labor/ staffing shortages in the solid waste industry caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The county has ordered a comprehensive solid waste study to develop a Solid Waste Master Plan and a market analysis through 2042. The study will analyze all recycling options, provide a collection zone route analysis, and provide an analysis of infrastructure improvements needed for growth.Commissioners should have the results of that study in mid-May to consider what direction to take moving forward.
