JJ Grey & Mofro added to Clay County Fair lineup

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – When the Plain White T’s canceled their April 6 appearance at the Clay County Agriculture Fair, general manager Tasha Hyder was quick to fill the void with JJ Grey & Mofro.
Local Jacksonville Beach group, Split Tone will be opening. Show starts at 7 p.m. in the Cattlemen’s Arena, arrive early to avoid traffic congestion for all our concerts. Ticket holders for Plain White T’s will be able to keep their ticket for JJ Grey & Mofro or receive a full refund. Current ticket holders should check their email that they used to purchase their tickets for further details or contact our fair office at info@claycountyfair.org.
Grey’s addition boosted advanced ticket sales. All VIP packages were sold out within three hours after his band was added to the lineup, Hyder said.
Standing room floor seats start at $20, and reserved seats for $25-$35 are still available.
“This year is all about being flexible and changing entertainers on the fly is part of that flexibility,” Hyder said. “We are excited to bring a new genre of music to our fair and happy that JJ Grey & Mofro will be joining us this year.”
The 35th Annual Clay County Agricultural Fair opens on April 1 and runs through April 1. Discounted tickets are on sale now at www.claycountyfair.org.

Farm Share food giveaway at American Legion on March 9

MIDDLEBURG – Farm Share will give away food at America Legion Post 250, 3939 County Road 218, in Middleburg on March 9. Pickup time starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends when all food is given away.
Farm Share’s mission to make sure that no Floridian goes hungry and no food goes to waste. As Florida's food bank, it has never charged any organization or individual for food.
The valued donors and Florida farmers make it possible for us to distribute healthy and nutritious fruits, vegetables, proteins and other non-perishable food to Florida families, children, seniors and individuals in need.
Farm Share continues to make a major difference in the lives of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the state of Florida as a food bank. Since March 1, 2020, Farm Share has powered food distributions with nearly 108 million pounds of food related to COVID-19 relief efforts in Florida. That is the equivalent of 89,813,877 meals. Of the pounds distributed, more than 36,653,000 pounds was healthy and nutritious fruits and vegetables.

Strawberry Fest coming to fairgrounds this weekend

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Strawberry Fest will return to the Clay County Fairgrounds this weekend.
The annual event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Plant City strawberries, free bounce house, arts and crafts, live entertainment, pony rides, strawberry shortcake, berry cute baby contest, free petting farm, photo opportunities, chocolate covered strawberries, free sack races, rock climbing wall, strawberry fudge, games, pie-eating contests, strawberry ice cream and shakes, free hula hoop contest, face painting, strawberry lemonade, free rock painting, strawberry wine slush mixes, treats, free strawberry relays, train rides, free corn hole, strawberry jams and jellies and free inside toddler play area will be featured.

Johnson Slough Community Cleanup Day on Saturday

ORANGE PARK – Orange Park needs help keeping the waterways clean.
Volunteers and teams of volunteers are needed to help clean up Johnson Slough on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone will meet at Bradly Park at 670 Nelson Dr. Bags and gloves will be provided. Dress for wet and muddy conditions. Volunteer service letters will be provided upon request.

Middleburg Lions Club looking for golfers for its annual tourney

OAKLEAF – The Middleburg Black Creek Lions Foundation is looking for players and sponsors for its 14th annual Charity Golf Tournament on March 26 at the Eagle Landing Golf Club, 3989 Eagle Landing Pkwy. in Oakleaf.
The tournament costs $75 a player and it helps provide eye exams and glasses to those who can’t afford them.

Quigley House Wine Gala slated for April 17 at Sullivan Hall

ORANGE PARK – The Quigley House Wine Gala Quigley House will host a Wine Gala on April 17 at Sullivan Hall behind Sacred Heart Catholic Church on U.S. Highway 17 in Fleming Island.
The is a fundraising event and will include wine tasting, a live band, "Five good Years," a silent auction, live auction a photo booth sponsored by BEBO Photography, a Wine Pull and other fun events. Quigley House asks for residents to come for a great evening to support a great cause.

Clay County’s Quigley House, the only dual certified Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center has been approved for a new Florida Council Against Sexual Violence grant. The new program will address the prevention of sexual violence, especially as it affects area youth. Quigley House provides the following services free to survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence: emergency shelter, 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling, victim advocacy, Injunction for Protection legal assistance, court advocacy, case management, information and referrals, pet shelter (one of a few in the state), economic justice, and child advocacy.

3 Winn-Dixie stores to get Moderna vaccines for COVID-19

CLAY COUNTY – Southeastern Grocers, which includes Winn-Dixie, will be administering 8,100 Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations at their stores, including three locations in Clay County.
The stores at 2720 Blanding Blvd., in Middleburg, 1545 County Road 220 on Fleming Island and 2851 Henley Road in Lake Asbury will be getting the vaccines.
As a continued preferred retail partner in the fight against COVID-19, SEG will further administer the free Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to eligible recipients in 64 Winn-Dixie, three Harveys Supermarket and two Fresco y Más locations through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, when available. The grocer will continue to offer this latest round of free vaccines to health care workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities and adults ages 65 and older in accordance with the Florida health authority guidelines, while supplies last.

As future vaccine allocation continues to be determined and prioritized by the state of Florida, HHS and the CDC, SEG has robust plans in place to continue to administer additional free vaccines directly to the front line at all in-store pharmacies. In the coming months, the grocer will also provide additional COVID-19 vaccines at pharmacy locations and will coordinate future drive-thru clinics to administer free COVID-19 vaccines in additional underserved communities as availability expands.
