CLAY COUNTY—Clay Soil and Water Conservation District is partnering with A+ Environmental Solutions to host two contests for county students.

Rules for the poster contest:

  • The entry form must be completed for eligibility.
  • The contest theme must be on the poster.
  • Posters must be created by an individual student, not a team.
  •  Posters must be delivered flat.
  • Posters may be of any size.
  • Any media may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect.

Rules for the speech contest:

  • The speech must be related to the theme.
  • Speeches must be original, not previously used, and created by the contestant.
  • Notes may be used while speaking, but no audio or visual aids.
  • The winner of the local competition will be entered in an area competition and then may advance to the State competition.
  • Contestants may not wear attire that identifies them with any organization (e.g., FFA, 4-H, or school logos). It is strongly encouraged that contestants wear professional/casual clothing.
  • Oral speeches will be presented to the judges during the county-level speech contest. Attendance is required unless there is an excused absence. Absent candidates without an excused absence will be disqualified. Excused absences will be determined at a later time for make-up.
  • Time Limit - Speeches must be a minimum of five minutes but not greater than seven minutes in length. Time under or over these limits will result in two points deducted for each 15-second increment or part thereof.
  • Judging – A standard score sheet will be used for all contestants. The judges’ decisions will be final.

More information can be found in the attached PDF downloads for each contest. Good luck!
