Clay Day in Tallahassee a positive legislative endeavor

County Officials, Businesses, Community Leaders all made the journey to the Florida State Capital this past Thursday, January 11th to showcase Clay County with top State Legislators and build partnerships, grow friendships and encourage support towards major priorities in the growing County of Clay. From the First Coast Expressway and other Highway priorities to the Public Safety Training Facility to the Health Department Building, VA Clinic, Youth Alternative Program, Cultural Funding Grants to many individual Municipality needed funding proposals. Many major Policy items were discussed and explained as comments and open discussion were an excellent way to learn first hand about new and developing policy variations and meanings.

Speakers throughout the day met with our community leaders and expressed their support and offered time for topic engagement and discussion. Speakers included: Senator Aaron Bean, Kevin Clearly, Director, Office of Legislative Affairs, Department of Environment Protection, Mike Dew, Secretary, Department of Transportation, Education Representative Manny Diaz, Cissy Proctor, Executive Director, Department of Economic Opportunity.

Special Guests also included Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Senator Rob Bradley from Fleming Island, Florida Representative Travis Cummings of Fleming Island, Florida Representative Bobby Payne of Palatka, Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida Jimmy Patronis and the Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam.

The Plaza was filled with County and local Municipal Vendors to showcase our growing and vibrant communities and offer information to many House and Senate representatives who were in attendance. Many members of The Fleming Island Band wee on hand to play and entertain the large group. Major thanks to all who helped make this successful day possible.
