LAKE ASBURY – According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a motorcyclist who was stopped for not wearing eyewear or having a license tag wound up going to jail after the traffic stop quickly escalated into a drug bust.

John Thomas Colon, 38, of Lake Asbury, was charged on April 4 with resisting the deputy with violence, possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and ammo by a convicted felon, driving with a suspended license and not having insurance or registration after he was pulled over on Henley Road in a fast food restaurant parking lot.

When he was being questioned about his identity, he attempted to ride away, but the deputy grabbed the handlebar and eventually gained control of the motorcycle and the rider.

Colon was tackled, and with help from a bystander, the deputy subdued Colon. The drugs, including 5.1 grams of methamphetamine, three syringes and a scale, were found in his backpack.

His bond was set at $172,521.
