SOIL & WATER: The Clay County Soil & Water Conservation District meets Jan. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Clay County Extension office, 2463 SR16 W in Green Cove Springs. Open to the public.

QUIT SMOKING CLASS: Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. until Noon at Orange Park Medical Center. This free class provides students with free patches, lozenges, gum, a quit plan, workbook, water bottle, stress ball and more. MUSICAL AUDITIONS: Jan. 13 at 11:15 a.m., Advent Lutheran Church, 2156 Loch Rane Blvd., Orange Park, Fellowship Hall. All skill levels are welcome from grades 3-12. No preparation needed. TOBACCO FREE PARTNERSHIP: Meets Jan. 17 at 11:30 am. in Orange Park Town Council chambers, 2042 Park Ave. Discussion will include E-cigarette use among teens, Point of Sale initiatives and goals, CHA/CHIP updates and plans, event planning and tobacco policy change implementation for businesses.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Greg Parsons, of the Camp Blanding Museum, presents a talk on WWI POW camps on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Historical Society meeting in Penney Farms, Council Chambers at Town Hall, 4100 Clark Ave.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY: The Archaeological Institute of America – Jacksonville Society meets at Noon Jan. 26 in Building 51 at the University of North Florida to hear Stanford University professor Patrick Hunt discuss “Timely Remedies: Ancient Medicines of Otzi, the Ice Man,” referring to the 5,300-year-old body found in the Alps in 1991.
