Brown goes big in Raiders's upset over Broncos

ORANGE PARK - Orange Park senior defensive back/wide receiver Jermel Brown showed off his immense speed in the three different aspects of football; special teams (98-yard kickoff return), defense (two interceptions; one a 90-yard TD) and offense (37-yard pass reception that led to Raider score) as the Raiders played their best complete game of all season with a resounding 41-22 district 3-3S win over Middleburg. The win had some minute playoff ramifications before last week with the Raider's loss to Ponte Vedra a playoff killer, but the win, nonetheless, over Middleburg did not keep the Broncos from advancing into the region playoffs in a week.

Brown, who opened up the contest on the opening kickoff with a 98-yard run straight up the middle of the field for a score that put the Raider's sideline into a frenzy.

Ironically, Middleburg High's kicker Kaleb Robison, who had been nailing out of the end zone kickoffs for most of his season, did not get his first one out of the end zone and Brown made him pay for it.

On the next series, after a three and out by Middleburg, Orange Park running back Dylon Ruiz revved up his engine for a 67-yard scoring run on his first handoff to put Orange Park up 14-0 unexpectedly fast. Ruiz finished with 146 yards for the game.

Orange Park capitalized on defense on Middleburg's next series with a recovered fumble but failed to score off the pickup.

No big deal, on Middleburg's next series, Tyler Jackson picked up a fumble off a smashing tackle by Raider defensive end Justin Davis and romped 60 yards to paydirt as the Broncos seemed intent on giving the game away before halftime.

Robison sparked some interest with a 54-yard field goal just halftime, but Orange Park quarterback Gabe Taylor connected with .....for a five-yard score to put Orange Park up 26-3 at the break.

Near halfway of the third, Orange Park's defense struck again with defensive back Donovan Bradley taking a Jaydan Jenkins pass 80 yards with a pick six to put Orange Park up 33-3.

Brown snagged a pass interception of his own later in the game and sprinted 90 yards to paydirt.
