GREENCOVESPRINGS - Clay High got three individual champions to win their own Clay Rotary Wrestling Invitational handily over Springstead High School Saturday afternoon in Green Cove Springs.

Clay scored 262.5 points to Springstead’s 199.5 and Charlotte’s 157. Middleburg finished 19th with 51 points as the only other Clay County team in the tournament. With Clay High, second in Class 1A last year, hosting the annual Springstead was 12th in Class 2A last year with Charlotte 15th in 2A. “Tussle of Muscle” dual match with 3A-Fleming Island on February 8, the Blue Devils got titles to Daniel Porter at 113, Steven Chopek at 120 and Kurt Jackson at 195.

Top six medal winners were Justin Byler, third at 106 via forfeit; Cale Hoskinson, sixth at 126 with 4-2 loss to Suwannee’s Chase Clark; Peyton Hughes, second at 138 with 11-3 loss to Tampa Prep’s Troy Nation; Grant Stanish, sixth at 145 with 3-2 loss to Hernando’s Boston Tafelski; Dylan Taylor, third at 152 with 6-2 win over Bailey Howes of Niceville; Garrett Weseman, sixth at 160 with 6-5 loss to Billy Shaw of Creekside; Carson Yost, fifth at 170 with pin over Fernando Valdez of Hernando; Abbott Taylor, fourth at 182 with 3-2 loss to Brandon Dickman of Creekside and Ryan Rivers, fifth at 285 with pin over Jamon Goodwin of Raines.

For Middleburg, Chris Burch finished sixth at 132 wiht 4-2 loss to Josh Hulse of Hernando and Bryce Williams finished sith at 152 with a forfeit loss to Joseph Cusick of Bishop Kenny.
