GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Blank Check Society completed its monthly mission on Saturday, Feb. 24, by honoring veterans at Little Ruth and Mt. Olive cemeteries.
A total of 100 US Flags were proudly placed upon the graves of fallen heroes. We were honored to be in the presence of many soldiers who participated in numerous conflicts and served in multiple branches of the US Military. BCS members also removed debris to display the stones identifying some of these brave men and women. Joining the BCS were members from the American Legion, VFW and VFW Auxiliary.
The BCS is forever grateful to the VFW Post 1988 – Green Cove Springs for allowing the use of their facilities to gather, hold meetings and conduct fundraisers.
The Blank Check Society is a non-profit organization. The membership consists of veterans or family members of a veteran, living or deceased, who want to be a part of a brotherhood to honor veterans. All BCS members possess a deep appreciation for our veterans and love for our great country.
BCS members visit local cemeteries monthly to place flags upon veteran grave sites. Quarterly, the BCS conducts cemetery clean-ups/flag placements. The BCS, furthermore, escorts funerals for fallen veterans at no charge to the family.
All funding to operate the BCS is earned through membership dues, fundraising and donations. Our next fundraiser, Blood Drive/Fish Fry, is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. This event will be at VFW Post 1988, at 421 S. Orange Ave., in Green Cove Springs.
Dinners are $10; anyone who donates blood will receive a free dinner. All proceeds will help purchase U.S. Flags to honor fallen heroes.
