Yellow Jackets take conference track titles

ORANGE PARK - The Oakleaf Junior High boys and girls track teams sizzled their way to team titles at the Northeast Florida Athletic Conference championships held Thurs., April 8 at Orange Park High School.

The Oakleaf boys team beat Lakeside 131-77 with Orange Park Junior third at 72 followed by Bradford, Lake Asbury, Green Cove Springs and Wilkinson.

The Oakleaf girls team also finished ahead of Lakeside, 121-107.5, with Orange Park also third at 60.5. Fourth through eighth were Lake Asbury, Green Cove Springs, Wilkinson, Bradford and Keystone Heights.

Oakleaf’s girls got a sterling performance from sprinter Kaymin Sales who won the 100, 200 and 400 then anchored the 4 x 100 relay to victory.

In the boys action, sprinters from Oakleaf and Orange Park traded off wins and second place with Devin Collins winning the 100 for the Yellow Jackets, followed by teammate Josber Stimphil; Orange Park’s Allan Lamb winning the 200 over two sprinters from Bradford, and Oakleaf’s Santonio Rio winning the 400 in 53.30 with Orange Park taking third and fourth, Cameron Doctor and Quinton Moore.

Oakleaf won the 800 with Jaycen

Lowery clocking 2:26.56.

In the relays, Oakleaf beat Orange Park in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 with Green Cove Springs second to Oakleaf in the 4 x 800.

Winning conference titles for the girls were Ana Chiang, 800 and 1600 for Green Cove; Rylynn Robinson 100 hurdles for Lakeside; Kiersten Shaw, high jump for Keystone Heights; Avi Miller, long jump for Orange Park; Madison Underwood, discus for Wilkinson and Morgan Prather, shot put for Wilkinson. Oakleaf won the 4 x 100 relay. Orange Park won the 4 x 400 relay. Oakleaf won the 4 x 800 relay.

For the boys, conference champions were Devin Collins, 100 for Oakleaf; Allan Lamb, 200 for Orange Park; Santonio Rio, 400 for Oakleaf; Jaycen Lowery, 800 for Oakleaf; Jacob Campbell, 1600 for Green Cove Springs; Nathen Verger, 100 hurdles for Oakleaf; Josber Stimphil, high jump for Oakleaf; Jake Morgan, long jump for Wilkinson; Antonio Thomas, discus for Lake Asbury and Riley Edmonson, shot put for Lakeside. Oakleaf won all three relays; 4 x 100, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800.
