JACKSONVILLE, FL – University of Florida sophomore Lauren Waidner, a Fleming Island High School graduate, sunk a 15 foot putt on the second overtime hole to win the First Coast Women’s Amateur title on Thurs., June 21 at Timuquana Country Club.

Waidner, who defeated Hannah Berman of Ponte Vedra Beach and Chloe Shiavone of Jacksonville with the buzzer beater putt, finished with an even par 144 score. Waidner and Berman, a sophomore at Jacksonville University and a graduate of Ponte Vedra High School where she was twice a region champion, both shot at 71 and 73 rounds while Shiavone shot a best of tournament 70 in round one, but fell to 74 in round two to draw even for the trio.

On the first overtime, all three shot for par with Waidner sinking the gamewinner from 15 feet away on the second hole.

In the second round, Waidner shot two under par on the first nine with two birdies, but fell off the pace on the second nine holes. Berman bogied three holes on the front nine but had two birdies on the second nine to stay close to Waidner and Shiavone, who nearly matched Waidner’s first round with a one under 35 with one birdie, but she double bogied on 11 and bogied 16 and 17 to fall of the pace.

At Florida, Waidner played 14 of 37 rounds for the Gators with an 80.50 score average and a best round of 73 with a top finish of 34th.

Also in the field was Waidner’s former Fleming Island High teammate Sarah May, now at Stetson University, who finished in 16th place with a 13-over par 157.

At Stetson, May finished her first season with 25 rounds of play with a 76.68 scoring average and a best round of 70 (twice). May’s top finish was a fifth at the Xavier Invitational in October.
