Recently my wife and I were having a fun filled conversation with three of our granddaughters. My wife was telling them how, when she was just a young girl, she met new friends at a church youth convention. They continued their friendship and my wife was telling them that she stayed in touch with her new friends by frequently sending them notes.

One of the little girls said in great surprise, “Nanny, why didn’t you text them.”

Many young people have no concept of a world without cell phones, email, computers or the internet. They do not remember a time without television, fax machines, laptops and tablets.

The world has changed. In the context of history, the recent changes have been rapid. In many ways, our lives are much better. In other ways, changes have made it seem the ground is shifting and we cannot find a safe foundation.

In all of this, however, there is an anchor. There is a foundation we can build our lives on and know that foundation will never shift beneath us.

God’s word is a constant. His promises have not changed and they never will change.

There is a powerful verse of Scripture that gives us the assurance that God’s promises are unchanging. It is Psalm 89:34 that says “No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said.”

You can depend on what God has said in His word. When all around you is changing and the turmoil seems to never stop, the Lord will hold on to you by the promises of His word.

When everything is unsettled and unraveling, you are safe in the arms of the Savior. Regardless of what else changes, He will not.

Don’t give up! When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. The Lord will bring you into safety. He is your security. His promise is your answer!
