Faith walk: The greatest gift ever given

Paul the Apostle powerfully expressed what cannot adequately be expressed in words when he declared “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” (2 Corinthians 9:15)

This is the season when we remember above all that God gives! He is the greatest Giver of gifts. He gave us a gift that is beyond our expression and perhaps even beyond our comprehension.

The “unspeakable gift” is presented to us in the verse that is known by more Christians than any other single Bible verse. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

His gift to us is His only provision for our eternal salvation. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

There are multiple benefits attached to receiving God’s greatest gift to us.

His gift lifts us to a higher realm – “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus…” Ephesians 2:6

His gift affords us the greatest treasure – “In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3

His gift is peace. “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

The Scripture starts with the offer of this wonderful gift in the prophecy of Genesis when God declares “the seed of the woman” shall have victory over the serpent (or Satan) and continues in every book of the Bible through Revelation where He is proclaimed “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”

Christmas is the season when we wrap our hearts around a manger and bow before the Savior. We come to worship in praise to God for the greatest gift ever given.

“O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.”
