Blue Devils open
under new eyes

GREEN COVE SPRINGS - Clay High football opened up its spring football session with an intra-squad scrimmage at Clay High School under the intensely watchful eyes of interim coach John Stilianou in lieu of former head coach Joshua Hoekstra taking a position at Bolles in recent weeks.
Constantly heard over the whistles was Stilianou barking his favorite phrase “Do your job” as quarterback Tre Griner directed the nearly new Blue Devil offensive troops led by center Joe Grelli and wideout Derek Holt with hard-charging running back Al’Querious Ray showing blunt force trauma as his weapon of choice. Tight end Deklan Dougherty also snared a Griner touchdown pass in first half action.
On the defensive side, defensive coach Rodney Keller had his attack squad chasing Griner in pocket rollouts with some impressive size up front.
In one offensive set, Holt took a Griner slant pass 75 yards to paydirt.
Clay is scheduled to play Creekside on May 16 in their spring game.

Raider football spring

Earl Campbell-looking Kendy Charles at RB?

ORANGE PARK – With all state defensive end Kendy Charles lugging the leather from the Orange Park High Raiders football offensive set, shudders of trauma may be the reaction to enemy defensive coaches as spring football opened up at Orange Park High School.
Charles, one of the top defensive stalwards in north Florida who happens to be agile enough to also excel on a soccer pitch, was pounding the turf with his 6’-1’, 245 pound torso as Raider defenders winced at the thought of making a tackle.
Rest assured, with returning quarterback Vincent Walker returning to coach Tom Macpherson’s pocket, the Raiders will move the ball swiftly although speedster Alex Collier is prepping for the state track meet with his 10.5 100 speed.
On defense, safety Spencer Kirkham is a top tackler for the Raiders.
Orange Park will play at Ed White on May 17 in their spring game.

Huff gone, Lindo back

ORANGE PARK – With all-everything quarterback Tyler Huff gone, a new name popped up for Ridgeview High’s football team with Lakeside Junior High standout Ben Gardiner, all of about 165 pounds, slated to give the pocket a shot.
Gardner had weapons at his disposal in week one of spring football with Denali Lindo top pass catcher in the area with Isaac Chaffin also returning.
On defense, Matt Dye is a slick pass defense guy in the secondary with Jordan Jackson a top prospect on defense with Spencer Robertson. Nick Staefe and Nick Staefe are both athletic enough to go both ends on the line of scrimmage.
Ridgeview travels to Suwannee for their spring game on May 17.

Hyams ready to take reigns

FLEMING ISLAND - With running back DeWayne McBride gone to Ocala, Fleming Island High coach Damenyum Springs will look to his four year quarterback, Dean Hyams, to take control and command of the Golden Eagles.
Fleming lsland wil have tons of new faces, but returners in key positions will be Broden Domenico, Kaleb Seyboldt and Bryan Maddox. Maddox showed off a stout, strong build as a possible linebacker candidate to team with Zack Payne.
Lineman Jeremiah Jackson is strong and moves quickly and can be a team wrecker.
Two Orange Park transfers; Shag Magwood and Isiah Blair add speed on both sides of the ball depending on need.
Fleming Island travels to Flagler Palm Coast for their spring game on May 17.

Size not a problem for Broncos

MIDDLEBURG – Size has never been a problem for the Middleburg High football team and with three biggies returning to anchor the offensive line; Cole Leclair, Colby Warner and Nate Rance, Bronco ballcarriers should be expectedly excited about carrying the rock.
“We
In week one, most impressive on the outside was Jay Lane with Stone Newsome taking the hard way right up the gut with  power.
On the outside Treavor Shearin returns as a multiple threat on offense.
Linebacker Brody Senn should be destructive again.Middleburg plays at Santa Fe May 23 in their spring game.
