Rogers lone 1A state qualifier

JACKSONVILLE - St. Johns Country Day School senior Nick Rogers was the lone survivor of the Bolles swim gauntlet at the region 1-1A championship with state qualifying finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.

In the 200 free, Rogers ripped a fourth place 1:44.15 split behind P.K. Yonge’s Trevor Mcgovern who scorched a 1:41.31 to win over Epicopal’s Dale Haney at 1:42.95. Rogers is ranked ninth in Class 1As championship meet to be held in Stuart Stuart on Sat., Nov. 16.

In the 100 butterfly, Rogers finished as runnerup to Episcopal’s Sterling Crane who won in 48.89. Rogers, sixth last year in Class 1A in 50.45, finished in 50.63 to garner a fourth ranking in Class 1A.

In 2017, Rogers also finished 21st in the 100 breaststroke in Class 1A.

Other region 1-1A finishers were girls 200 medley relay (8th); boys 200 medley relay (5th); Gabeirelle Delegado (21st in 200 free); Ethan Albright (20th in 200 free/24th 500 free); Emma Schultz (13th in 200IM/21st 100 fly); Hunter Hopkins (17th 200IM/12th 100 back); Courtney Sage (7th 50 free/10th in 100 free); Maylee Gouin (19th 50 free/22nd 100 fly); Stuart McKenzie (16th 50 free/12th 100 back); Tucker Price (19th 50 free/16th 100 free); David Ni (21st 50 free/15th 100 breast); Ella Wilkes (23rd 100 fly); girls 200 free relay (7th); boys 200 free relay (6th); Amelia Dyer (12th 100 breast); girls 400 free relay (12th); boys 400 free relay (11th).
