Rideout Elementary advances to FIRST LEGO League regionals

ORANGE PARK – Middleburg’s Rideout Elementary’s ROE-Botics team was one of four teams from the FIRST LEGO League of Northeast Florida to advance to next month’s regional competition in Jacksonville, while five other Clay County teams were selected as alternates following the two-day RoboThrasher qualifier tournament at the Thrasher-Horne Center. St. Johns Country Day School’s Spartan Robotics, Girl Scout Gateway Council and Girl Scouts of Fleming Island’s Orange Eaters, Orange Park Elementary’s Orange and W.E. Cherry Elementary’s Builderbots of Green Cove Springs all will be alternates. Other local awards included: Doctors Inlet’s DIS Robotics and Charles E. Bennett, both of Green Cove Springs, earned the RoboThrasher Togetherness Award; Clay Virtual Academy’s Robo Vipers earned the Shine On Award; Fleming Island’s W.M. Patterson’s Islanders earned the Innovation Project Award; Orange Eaters and McRae earned the Global Innovation Award; Orange Park’s Plantation Oaks’ RoboHawks earned the Robot Design Award; Spartan Robotics and Builderbots each were selected for the Core Value Award. The regional tournament is Feb. 29 at the Prime Osborne Center in downtown Jacksonville.
