Five arrested as part of drug raid on Brickyard Road

MIDDLEBURG – A man was arrested for the second time in six months following a drug raid at his home at 227 Brickyard Road.

Charles Allen Dukes, 57, of Middleburg, was scheduled to start a trial on March 9 after he was arrested in a July 30 raid. Now he faces new charges, including operating a house used for selling illegal drugs, possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Dukes was one of five people arrested Jan. 29 in connection with the raid.

Nicholas Eldon Larsen, 38, of Middleburg and Jackson Alexander Ball, 38, both of Middleburg, were charged with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, while Dorcee Aubrey Brown, 35, of Jacksonville, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, while Khiri Lindsey, 38, was charged with possessing drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, members of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Targeted Narcotics Unit served a warrant at Dukes’ home after they put the house under surveillance for 10 days. On Jan. 26, deputies were called to 227 Brickyard Road for an overdose of illegal drugs. Deputies watched at least three drug transactions at the home, and they stopped the buyers after they left. All were found with drugs, according to CCSO.

Dukes admitted to having crack cocaine, pipes, spoons, syringes and cut straws – all with cocaine residue, according to the arrest report.

Dukes now will wait in the Clay County Jail without bond.

According to a CCSO release: “We pay special attention to people arrested on drug charges who continue to engage in illegal activity while out of jail on bond. Maybe one day they'll understand they have options.”

Woman jailed after two children show signs of beating

ORANGE PARK – An Orange Park woman was charged with two counts of child abuse after Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies and officials with the Florida Department of Children and Families found two children with visible signs of possible beatings.

Kristina Caroline Worley, 30, was charged with two child abuse felonies. She was released after posting a $150,006 bond.

A Child Protection Investigator was called to Worley’s home after they received information a 5- and 7-year old child has marks on their buttock, hip, thigh, leg, back and arms. An examination by the First Coast Child Protection Team concluded the injuries were from “physical abuse.”

Deputies found a stun gun and strap on the kitchen counter.

Injuries, including deep bruising, to the children appeared to have been made by belt, according to the warrant.

OPPD: Woman busted for stealing from disabled victims

ORANGE PARK – A woman was arrested after Building Abilities for Special Children and Adults found discrepancies in one of its resident’s bank account.

Brittany Leanne Griffis, 25, of Middleburg, was arrested on Feb. 1 and charged with exploitation of a disabled persons for more than $50,000 after BASCA noticed “suspicious or fraudulent activity” to several residents at a group home on Lakeside Villa Drive, according to the Orange Park Police Department.

Her bond was set at $25,003.

Former boyfriend charged with hitting pregnant woman

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A former boyfriend who saw a passion mark on his pregnant ex-girlfriend’s neck became so enraged he struck her several times and tried to strangle her, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Tra William King, 21, of Middleburg, was charged on Feb. 3with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman.

According to the arrest report, the two met at the Main Street Boat Ramp on Jan. 15. When King saw the mark, he tried to strangle her, punched her in the arm, slapped her face and tried to squeeze her face. The victim had red marks on her face, CCSO said.

His bond was set at $25,003.

Three arrested following shoplifting spree at OP Mall

ORANGE PARK – Two women and a girl were arrested following a shoplifting spree at least two Orange Park Mall department stores.

Jessie Renee Quinn, 23, and Marie Suzanne Vanderbilt, 50, both of Jacksonville, were charged on Jan. 30 with shoplifting at multiple locations. The 15-year-old girl was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Security officials at Belk notices the women taking items without paying. All three were stopped as they left the store. Security and Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies said the women had $238.12 worth of merchandise.

When deputies found their pickup truck, they found several items of jewelry and clothes – all still with price tags – that apparently had been take from Belk and JC Penney. The total value of stolen merchandise was $1,366.95, according to the arrest report.

All three women also were given no trespassing warnings for the mall.

Woman to finally face animal cruelty charges

ORANGE PARK – A woman was finally caught a year after a warrant was issued for her arrest for cruelty to two dogs.

Anntoinette Maria Blanco, 48, of Daytona Beach, was arrested in Volusia County and transferred to the Clay County Jail on Jan. 31. to face allegations she neglected two dogs when she lived at 200 Parkwood Drive on Jan 10, 2019.

According to the warrant, Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for foul odor coming from inside the home. They found a Shepard cattle dog and a bulldog mix in a cage on the back porch, both malnourished and covered with feces and urine.

Both dogs were taken to the Clay County Animal Control center for rehabilitation.

NTSB: Bad weather, heavy clouds led to fatal 2017 plane crash

CAMP BLANDING – Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board concluded heavy clouds and other issues contributed to a 2017 airplane crash at Camp Blanding.

The report said 73-year-old Tennessee pilot Herman Eugene Steele suffered a “loss of control in flight” when his 1968 Mooney M20C Ranger crashed in the middle of the training camp. The report also states wind, rain and heavy clouds caused the fatal crash, and that Steele wasn’t authorized to fly in poor weather conditions.

Steele was flying from Ocala to Cecil Field to celebrate Thanksgiving with his daughter.
