Jacksonville men busted with drugs during traffic stop

ORANGE PARK – Two men were arrested after they fought with Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies after they found drugs in their car during a routine traffic stop.
Jonathan Jerome Phillips, 31, of Jacksonville, and Tony Jenkins, 40, of Jacksonville, face a litany of charges after they were stopped on Wells Road at Corporate Way when a deputy noticed the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Phillips was charged with battery on a police officer, possession of crack cocaine, Xanax and heroin with intent to traffic and sell. He also was charged with possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and making a false charge to law enforcement officers. His bond was set at $270,268.
Phillips was a passenger in the car when it was stopped. According to the arrest report, he tried to flee while a deputy checked him for weapons. Phillips eventually tripped. He continued to resist arrest while he wrestled with deputies, striking one deputy with his elbow.
Jenkins was charged with possession of ectasy, cocaine and marijuana, as well as providing a false name to law enforcement. Once at the Clay County Jail, he also was charged with hiding a lighter in his rectum and smoking a cigarette in his cell. His bond was set at $20,263.

Enraged woman charged with attacking boyfriend with knife

FLEMING ISLAND – A 29-year-old woman was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said she struck her estranged boyfriend with a knife.
In addition to being charged with aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon, Daniela Raquel Cueva, of Fleming Island, also was charged with violation of an order for protection against domestic violence.
According to the arrest report, the victim won a temporary injunction against Cueva on Oct. 26 and ordered to not commit any acts of violence against the man and to stay more than 500 feet away from his residence. Cueva entered the house on Oct. 27 and threatened him with a knife. The victim said he was cut in his lower back while he tried to force her from the house. Cueva then returned four hours later with a gun, CCSO said. The couple fought for control of the gun and the victim was bitten on the forearm and chest. Cueva left the house and was arrested 13 hours later when she returned for a third time.
Her bond was set at $27,505.

South Carolina man returned to Clay to face sexual battery charge

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A South Carolina man was sent back to Clay County to face charges of capital sexual battery on an 11-year-old.
Donald Christopher Dow Jr., 29, of Fountains Inn, South Carolina, was arrested in Laurens County on an outstanding warrant issued in Clay County on Oct. 15.
Dow is being held in the Clay County Jail without bond. He also was ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

SWAT raid leads to arrest of felon with ammunition, drugs

MIDDLEBURG – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team raided a home on Oct. 30 and recovered 40 rounds of ammunition, five pieces of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
Brian Scott Williams, 39, of Middleburg, was charged with possession of a firearm or ammo by a convicted felon, as well as drug charges with intent to sell.
Agents discovered bullets from two different guns during the search. They also found paraphernalia, including a bong with marijuana residue and needle syringe.
Williams previously was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of synthetic cannabinoid. Two of his conditions for release was to not own weapons or ammunition or use illegal drugs.
Williams’ bond was set at $79,008.

Man jailed for battery on girlfriend, elderly woman

FLEMING ISLAND – A 21-year-old man was charged with assaulting an elderly woman and domestic battery of his girlfriend.
Clay County Sheriff Office deputies were alerted to a dispute between a couple in a car. When Blake Austin Blackburn, 21, of Middleburg, was asked to exit the car, he struggled with deputies, according to the arrest report. He was pulled from the car and continued to wrestle with deputies until he was restrained.
A woman in the car had redness and scratches on her arms and stomach, CCSO said. The elderly woman called law enforcement after she said Blackburn assaulted her, too.
Blackburn was charged with assault on an elderly person, simple domestic violence and resisting arrest.

Woman charged with DUI after plowing into car, mailboxes, utility boxes

FLEMING ISLAND – A woman was charged with driving under the influence after she ran into a car, four mailboxes and two telephone utility boxes with a 9-year-old in the car on County Road 220 on Oct. 30.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Amanda Jo Vernon, 45, of Fleming Island, also was charged with having a minor passenger in her SUV when she attempted to cross C.R. 220 at Lakeshore Drive West. Once at the Clay County Jail, Vernon’s blood alcohol level was measured at .359 and .329 – more than four times over the legal limit of .08.

Macclenny man charged with dumping 1 ton of trash at Sonic

MIDDLEBURG – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said a Macclenny man was responsible for dumping more than a ton of trash at the abandoned Sonic Drive-In lot on County Road 220.
Ronald Jason Sweat, 45, was charged with violating the state’s litter law and uttering a forged check on Nov. 3.
According to CCSO, a man claimed Sweat wrote a check for $1,500 on his account without his permission. They also said he dumped 2,340 pounds of solid waste on the commercial site.
Sweat’s bond was set at $110,006.

Man charged with sending threatening messages to brother

MIDDLEBURG – A 22-year-old man was arrested on Oct. 14 for send threatening text messages to his brother.
Christopher Lee Reuter, of Middleburg, was charged with written threats to kill or do bodily harm after Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies read threatening messages in a property dispute between the brothers.
One of the messages read: “Man I’ll kill [brother] then what golden child u got to run to.” The argument started when their mother said she would give the victim her half of an inheritance.
According to the arrest report, Reuter admitted to being angry and sending the messages, and that he had no intention of harming his brother.
