SWAT standoff at apartment complex ends with arrest in Oakleaf

OAKLEAF – A standoff with SWAT members from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Orange Park Police Department that lasted nearly four hours Tuesday ended with the arrest of a man who reportedly fired several shots at apartment complex maintenance workers.
Brian Casey Bolden, 37, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony after he shot at employees of The Preserve at 785 Oakleaf Plantation Pkwy. Before barricading himself in his aunt’s apartment, CCSO said.
According to the arrest report, one employee said Bolden had threatened the maintenance crew in the past. He came to the pool area at 7:39 a.m. and pulled a gun from his waistband. He fired “at least five shots” and retreated to an apartment in Building 8. Nobody was injured.
SWAT team found Bolden inside the apartment, where he was arrested without incident.
Bolden remained in the Clay County Jail Wednesday with a 250,0003 bond.

Man arrested in connection with deadly Christmas Eve shooting

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man last Monday, July 29, wanted in connection with a 2018 Christmas Eve a deadly shooting in Orange Park.
Dartorian Markell Lee, 21, of Jacksonville, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied building or vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to the arrest report, Orange Park Police responded to a shooting last December on Floyd Circle East near Gano Avenue. Kendrick Lenard Walker, 41, was shot as he tried to leave the area in his car. He died from his injuries.
According to neighbors, people were heard fighting in the street. They heard a single gunshot toward a house, followed two minutes later with another shot down the street that apparently struck Walker. One neighbor reportedly said he heard a man yell, “I got a gun!”
Lee, who used to live at Floyd Circle, was arrested in Jacksonville and transported to the Clay County Jail. His bond was set at $300,009.
Lee had a prior conviction for burglary in 2017.
The case is still under investigation, OPPD confirmed.

Three sheriff jail officers fired for ‘inappropriate conduct’


GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office fired three detention officers following a year-long investigation into what the agency called “inappropriate conduct.”
Jail deputy employees Austin Hatcher, Marcus Beard and Kory Clarida were terminated for reported sexual misconduct with inmates.
CCSO started its investigation Aug. 5, 2018. No criminal charges were filed.
Sheriff Darryl Daniels, who is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement after he admitted to having a long-term affair with a former subordinate, issued the following statement:
“The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has a duty to provide humane treatment of inmates who are housed in the jail. To that end, our Department of Detention employees are expected to carry out the mission of the Sheriff's Office in a professional manner that is reflective of the expectations of our citizens.”

Orange Park man jailed after domestic argument turns physical

ORANGE PARK – Deputies responding to a domestic argument found a woman with red marks and scratches on her neck, chest, hip and back, which prompted charges against Jeffrey B. Gietz for felony battery and domestic battery by strangulation.
CCSO was called after someone saw a woman on the ground being punched by a man near Londonderry Drive and Kirkwall Court, the arrest report said. They eventually found the woman at her home.
She said she had been separated from Gietz for four years. They argued inside a car, she said, and when she ordered him to get out, the argument turned violent. Gietz had a scratch on his knee, CCSO reported.

Middleburg man finally caught for string of local burglaries

MIDDLEBURG – A 28-year-old Middleburg man was brought back to Clay County July 24 to face a litany of burglary and car theft charges.
John Henry Howard was delivered from the Holmes County Correctional Institution in Bonifay to face two counts of grand theft auto, burglary of a vehicle, grand theft of two firearms, burglary and criminal mischief for reported break-ins that started on Jan. 29.
According to arrest reports, Howard’s former girlfriend said he took two guns and her pick up truck; his brother said he burglarized his bedroom; and he was arrested in Jacksonville while driving another stolen car. JSO deputies said they found a stolen shotgun in the front seat.
A warrant was issued on Feb. 7.
He remained in the Clay County Jail without bond. His next court appearance is Aug. 21.

Speeding woman busted for DUI, possession of marijuana

MIDDLEBURG – A woman driving 80 mph along Blanding Boulevard was arrested for driving under the influence and being in possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana on July 25.
Valerie Hill, 20, of Jacksonville, was sent to the Clay County Jail after deputies tried to stop her after getting calls for a reckless driver.
She was seen caroming off a curb, veering over the fog line on the side of the road, according to the arrest report. When she finally stopped on Blanding Boulevard at Henley Road, deputies also found marijuana in the car.

Man tasered after punching, brawling with sheriff’s deputy


ORANGE PARK – A man had to be tasered after he repeated punched and wrestled with a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy last Sunday, July 28.
Devon James Stockburger, 20, of Orange Park, was arrested and charged with battery on a police officer, resisting arrest with violence, causing harm to a public servant and causing a minor to commit a delinquent act.
Deputies were called after they received a call of somebody driving recklessly on Vanderford Road East. Stockburger stopped his car at the intersection of Vanderford and Mitchell Avenue. He and his passenger got out of the car and Stockburger started to walk home, the arrest report stated.
Officers smelled alcohol and marijuana from the car. When Stockburger refused to stop, he started to fight with a deputy by throwing punches. He eventually was restrained when a deputy deployed his taser.

Women crash through mall parking lot to escape shoplifting charges

ORANGE PARK – Two women were arrested following a shoplifting spree that ended with a chase through the Orange Park Mall parking lot and along Blanding Boulevard.
Sharron Gracie Adams, 25, of Jacksonville, was charged with retail petit theft July 26 after mall security watched her take perfume from Victoria’s Secret and skinny jeans from Old Navy, according to the arrest report. As Adams left the mall, she got into a car driven by Jasmine Jade Watson, 23, of Jacksonville. Watson refused to stop when ordered by a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy. She crashed through a handicap rail trying to elude capture, while Adams threw the jeans from the car.
CCSO reported Watson ran stop lights on Blanding, but they were eventually caught when she ran into heavy traffic.
Watson was charged with attempting to flee and elude a police officer with lights and siren engaged and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
Since there was a child in the car, both were charged with child neglect.

Women face drug charges after being stopped for running stop sign


MIDDLEBURG – A couple carrying methamphetamine and other controlled substances were arrested after a routine traffic stop for failing to stop at a stop sign.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Valentina A. Kukurudzyak, 35, of Jacksonville, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and Xanax, while Cassandra Elaine Sanford, 40, of Orange Park, was charged with possession of meth and Adderall.
The women originally were stopped for running a stop sign at Brickyard Road and College Drive. A drug-sniffing dog alerted deputies to the drugs.
