One bicyclist dies, another critical in separate accidents on July 17
A 69-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a car on County Road 218 on July 17, followed by another accident less than eight hours later involving a 57-year-old man on CR 214 in Keystone Heights that left him with critical injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Sivalingam Kumaravailu was struck and killed by an SUV driven by Doris Pruitt, 80, of Middleburg, shortly before 2 p.m. She turned right from Pine Tree Lane onto C.R. 218 and collided with the man who was riding eastward on the northbound lane, according to FHP.
Later, Keystone Heights' Lonnie Smith was injured when he steered his bike in front of an oncoming car as he tried to turn into the parking lot of the Watering Hole.
Smith and Melissa Dolinger, 33, of Keystone Heights were traveling northbound on CR 214. As they approached Hall Lake Road, Smith reportedly turned suddenly in front of Dolinger as she tried to pass him.
Man faces drug charges after mistaking insurance card for license
FLEMING ISLAND – A driver who tired to use his insurance card as a driver’s license during a traffic stop wound up being arrested for driving under the influence, along with several other drug charges.
David Austin Kinsey-Adkison, 20, was booked in the Clay County Jail after being charged with possession of 84 Xanax, 17 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cartridges, 29.6 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, Kinsey-Adkison was pulled over on Turkey Hill Road as he approached County Road 220 after a deputy spotted him driving at 1:08 a.m. without his headlights and veering off the road.
When asked to produce his license, CCSO said he gave them his insurance card. He eventually was handcuffed and place in the back of a patrol car because he refused to keep walking into the roadway, stand at the rear of the patrol car or sit down.
Investigation leads to more abuse charges for Middleburg man
MIDDLEBURG – Charges continued to pile up on a man already in jail for felony battery and domestic battery by strangulation.
Danny Wright, 33, Middleburg, was charged with adult imprisonment and tampering with a witness to hinder, delay or prevent communication with law enforcement while the Clay County Sheriff’s Office continued its investigation.
Wright originally was arrested following a domestic dispute call on July 10. Deputies found Heather Morgan with a swollen left eye that already was “deep purple and blue,” and light bruising on her neck, according to the arrest report.
Additional charges were added on July 19, after investigator concluded Wright physically restrained Morgan from leaving the residence and striking her when tried to leave. He also kept her from calling for help, the report stated.
Wright remained in the Clay County Jail with a $150,009 bond.
Man nabbed leaving mall store with shopping cart of clothes
ORANGE PARK – A 50-year-old man was taken to jail after walking out of Sears with a shopping cart full of clothes.
Kenneth Sanford Garrett, of Jacksonville, was charged with grand retail theft.
According to the arrest report, a loss prevention officer at the Orange Park Mall store watched Garrett place several Levi shorts into a cart, then walk out the west entrance without paying. According to Sears, the value of the unpaid merchandise was $1,175.
