Couple busted after selling dope to sheriff informant

ORANGE PARK – An Orange Park couple were arrested last Thursday, June 20, when they sold drugs to a confidential informant working with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Derrick J. Martin, 32, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, manufacturer or deliver and owning or renting a home where drugs are manufactured, while Zena Lorraine Heiland, 25, was taken to jail after being charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
Both also were charged with child neglect.
According to the arrest report, a confidential information was searched before scheduling a drug purchase at a home on Lullwater Lane. The information reportedly bought 1.6 grams of a “white colored substance” in a clear plastic bag.
When SWAT returned to the house to serve a search warrant, they found a bag later identified as Fentanyl near a toilet in the master bathroom, a bag of marijuana weighing 11.12 grams and 50 Xanax tablets.
Martin’s bond was set at $245,015.

CCSO uses PIT maneuver in Jacksonville to end high-speed chase


OAKLEAF – An angry woman who circled her neighborhood twice with Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies in high-speed pursuit was finally caught ended when deputies used a pursuit intervention technique maneuver to stop her in Jacksonville.
Keauna Verlene Wilkes, 21, was booked in the Clay County Jail after being charged with vandalism of more than $1,000, battery on a police officer, firefighter or EMT and attempting to flee or elude a police officer with lights and siren active.
Officers were called to an Oakleaf address to investigate a disturbance. The caller said Wilkes had destroyed items in the house and threatened to driver her car into the home.
Wilkes was seen speeding away as deputies arrived, according to the arrest report. She led them around her neighborhood twice before trying to run to Duval County. They used a PIT maneuver to end the chase.
Wilkes was fitted with a hobble restraint after she tried to kick the windows for the squad car after she was arrested.

Convicted felon back in jail after using gun during attack

MIDDLEBURG – A convicted felon was arrested after he reportedly kicked a man in the face and hit him with a loaded handgun, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
Michael Gerard Ricks, 38, was charged with aggravated batter with a deadly weapon and use of a firearm with ammo by a convicted felon. He was placed in county jail with a $75,006 bond.
Deputies were called about somebody being shot. When they got there, they learned the victim was kicked and beaten with a pistol. The gun discharged during the attack, but nobody was struck.
According to CCSO, Ricks already had been convicted of burglary and possession of synthetic cannabinoids.

Three in jail following apartment poolside concession stand looting

ORANGE PARK – Three local teenagers were charged with breaking into an apartment complex poolside concession stand last Sunday, June 23.
Kayla Shephard, 18, Dariun Deyo, 18, and Brittaney Harris, 18, all of Middleburg, all were charged with burglary.
Clay County deputies were called to the Cypress Pointe Apartment complex after residents complained of loud noises. When they arrived, they found Deyo carrying a box of Rice Krispy Treats. Deyo, along with several other teenagers, jumped the fence from the pool area and ran away.
Deputies then noticed the window for the clubhouse concession stand was open with drinks and snacks scattered throughout the breezeway.
CCSO used its K9 unit to search the complex. They placed Shephard, Deyo and Harris under arrest since they all were at least 18. None of the teenagers in the pool area were residents, according to the arrest report.

Passed out man caught in car stolen from Jacksonville

ORANGE PARK – Sheriff deputies arrested a man who was passed out in a stolen car with his ignition on.
When officers approached the car, Michael Plaza Sparkman, 35, of Jacksonville, tried to drive away but was quickly stopped. A check of the car revealed it was reported stolen in Jacksonville less than a month ago.
Deputies found a broken steering column. He was charged with trespassing, violating an injunction for domestic violence by possessing a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia (digital scales).

Recent arrest clears string of local robberies from November

MIDDLEBURG – A man wanted for series of robberies was caught in Volusia County and returned to Clay County on June 20.
Deputies had been looking for Dustin Robert Love, 33, of Middleburg since two dirt bikes were taken on Nov. 7, 2018, and a truck was reported stolen on Nov. 12 and a television and dirt bike were stolen on Nov. 28, according to the arrest warrant.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies reportedly found the truck at a Middleburg house on Nov. 24 and the two dirt bikes at a different Middleburg home on Nov. 28.
Love was charged with two counts of grand theft, auto theft and two counts of burglary.
On Thursday, June 25, deputies added another grand theft charge.
His total bond was set at $185.018.

Man arrested on outstanding warrants during routine traffic stop


MIDDLEBURG – A Panama City man was arrested on June 20 to face an array of outstanding charges.
David Shelton Johns Jr., 29, was charged with domestic battery, retail petit theft and dealing in stolen property after deputies stopped a car for a traffic violation.
According to the arrest report, Johns was a passenger in a car stopped on County Road 218. A check of all of the occupants revealed three outstanding warrants for Johns.
