No tail lights leads to police chase through neighborhood

ORANGE PARK – What started as a routine traffic stop for no tail lights ended up with a crash and a defendant being bit by a Clay County Sheriff’s Office K-9 while he tried to hide in a shed.
Anthony Ryan Johnson, 28, of Jacksonville was charged with breaking into a dwelling, structure or conveyance while armed, resisting, opposing or obstructing a police officer, driving with a revoked or suspended license, attempting to flee with lights and siren active, leaving the scene of an accident with damage and no valid registration.
According to CCSO, Johnson was driving southbound on Blanding Boulevard last Friday when a deputy driving the opposite direction noticed Johnson’s Honda CRX didn’t have any tail lights. The deputy made a u-turn and attempted to make a traffic stop when Johnson made a turn onto Constitution Drive and accelerated, according to the arrest report.
The deputy decided the speeds were “well above” the posted limit for the neighborhood, so he turned off his lights and siren. Johnson then crashed into a mailbox and palm tree. Johnson fled and tried to hide in shed with a box cuter, but he was found by a Sheriff’s K-9.
Johnson was treated and released from Orange Park Medical Center with dog bites, deputies reported.
A subsequent search of the car led to the recovery of a loaded magazine and 9 mm handgun near the driver’s seat. The tags weren’t registered to the car, and Johnson also didn’t have a valid license.

Woman tasered after she fights with husband, sheriff deputies

ORANGE PARK – Deputies used a taser on a woman who turned a fight with her husband into a battle with police last week.
Quantina Taylor, 34, of Orange Park, was charged with simple domestic battery, resisting an officer with violence and two counts of resisting, opposing or obstructing an office, firefighter or EMT, but not before officers tried to restrain her by using hobble restraints on her legs and placing a spit hood over her head.
According to the arrest report, Taylor first chest-bumped a deputy after he responded to a call for a domestic disturbance. Her husband had a mark on his face and a ripped shirt, so CCSO tried to arrest her.
Taylor reportedly spit on a deputy more than once, and she kicked a deputy in the thigh and side window of the patrol car. Deputies eventually had to use their taser to get her under control.

Naked man jailed after punching people, tearing up convenience store

MIDDLEBURG – A naked Callahan man was arrested on Saturday after he punched four people, threw things from the shelves at a local convenience story and tried to escape by running down Blanding Boulevard, Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
Kyle Michael Shannahan, 22, was charged with battery, criminal mischief and exposing himself.
Deputies were called to the Racetrac at 2501 Blanding Blvd. after a store clerk was punched while he tried to keep Shannahan, who is 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, from breaking store merchandise. According to CCSO, three other people were struck by Shannahan before he tried to out-run deputies. He didn’t go far – about 200 feet.

Woman goes to jail after kicking, slapping, running from sheriff deputies

MIDDLEBURG – A woman was charged with fighting with Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies after they tried to break up a family argument.
Meagan Michelle Greer, 33, of Middleburg, was booked in the county jail after being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
According to the arrest report, deputies arrived at the Family Dollar at 4249 County Road 218 after someone called for a suspicious person. When Greer got home, deputies tried to stand between Greer and her family as she approached her family with clinched fists. When she was ordered to stop, she slapped the officer’s hand.
She was arrested and placed inside the patrol car, but she started to hyperventilate, CCSO said. When the rescue squad arrived, she tried to run away while being evaluated. After she was caught, she went limp to make it more difficult for deputies to get her back into the car.
She eventually was placed in a violent prisoner restraint.

Pot-smoking passenger arrested after driver runs stop sign

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A Melrose woman was caught with pot after her driver was pulled over for running a stop sign.
Rebekah Louise Hall, 21, was arrest for possession of marijuana after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy smelled the pot after stopping Curtis Windale Hodge for rolling through the stop sign at Clemson Street and Little Lake Geneva Drive.
Deputies later arrested Hodge for an outstanding warrant in Bradford County for driving with a suspended license.
According to the arrest report, a total of 3.8 grams of marijuana were found in the car.
