Panthers show off new run game
ORANGE PARK – Ridgeview High may have been considered a strong pass team last year, but 2019 looks like a read, option will be the favorite flavor as a recent scrimmage showed off some speed, some power and a sprinkle of multi-faceted wideout Denali Lindo taking snaps and passes from different directions for the Panthers.
With a new quarterback, Ben Gardiner, taking primary snaps and speedster Ralando Gray popping in for some Wildcat action including a nifty touchdown rumble, the Panthers got some jukey running from Gray, Reynaldo Gonzales and burly newcomer Rasheed Baker.
From the outside, Lindo and Isaac Chaffin offered experienced hands for Gardiner’s pass atttempts, but the lightweight quarterback will need some weightroom time to bolster up to Class 5A standards with the likes of Clay and Baker County chasing him.
On the defensive side, defensive linemen Jordan Jackson, Bryant Perez and Tyler Duggan were making life tough for the Panthers’ offensive schemes with linebacker Jacob Myers even pick-sixing a Gardiner pass.
The secondary could be a strength with Matthew Dye manning one side, Lindo getting some safety reps and Rae Barger in a linebacker slot.
