ORANGE PARK - Westside High got two scores on just two plays to grab a quick 14-0 lead on the Ridgeview High Panthers new regime under new head coach Matt Knauss, but held court for the rest of the 45 minutes in their Saturday officials scrimmage at Ridgeview High School.

With Panther quarterback Max Monroe chasing bad center snaps and avoiding strong pass rushes from Westside's outside blitzes, the Panthers could not get any offensive momentum for the day as the scrimmage ended at 17-0.

"We have a lot work to do," said Knauss, succinctly after the scrimmage. Ridgeview will host Keystone Heights in their Fri., Aug. 16 preseason game.

Ridgeview opened the scrimmage on offense and got just one pass completion; a sideline toss to Denali Lindo in what looked like a fast start for Monroe, but Westside's gigantic defensive front; two massive 6'-3", 250 pounders, were too much for the Panther offensive line as Monroe was on the run for most of his offensive sets. Westside blitzed for most of the game getting Monroe from the outside edge.

On their first offensive play, Westside found green grass for 50 yards on a left side jet sweep by wide out Ahmari Mahan to score the first points of the day, then Mahan caught a 50 yard pass play for a second score on the second play of the game after Westside again forced a punt from the Panther red zone.

On defense, defensive tackle Jordan Jackson got some inside rushes for quarterback hurries while defensive back Matthew Dye put lock down on the Westside receiver corp on his side of the field. Linebacker Jacob Myers, who knocked down one pass attempt late in the game, had three tackles for losses. Glenn Miller shut down a jet sweep for a loss from his safety position.

On offense, Monroe hit Isaac Chaffin on a hood pattern with running back Miiku Tuisano, a 200-pounder, getting some reps.
