ORANGE PARK – This month the volunteers at Orange Park Medical Center are celebrating their 45th anniversary of serving the Orange Park Community. When the hospital originally opened its doors in 1974, a member of the hospital’s auxiliary was at the door ready to welcome its first patient.
“Our mission is and always has been direct service to the patients with aid and comfort to their families and aid the hospital in projecting an image of timely and humane service to the community,” said Sandra DiGiovanni, Vice President of the Auxiliary at Orange Park Medical Center.
Starting out as Greater Orange Park Community Hospital in 1947 to now Orange Park Medical Center, the auxiliary program has continuously supported the ever-expanding hospital. In 1988, the auxiliary took over responsibility of the hospital gift shop which over time provided the opportunity to raise money is given as scholarships to worthy students each year. The funds raised in the OPMC gift shop also assisted in a donation to the hospital for the construction of the hospital’s chapel located in the main lobby.
DiGiovanni says, “Today on our 45th anniversary we look forward to continuing to provide aid and comfort to the patients and families in the greater Orange Park community.”
