OPMC celebrates birth of 6 ‘Hurricane Dorian’ babies

ORANGE PARK – The Orange Park Medical Center found the silver lining of threat presented by Hurricane Dorian with six new lives that were welcomed into the world during the storm.

The hospital welcomed babies Kiami, Alina, Yuliana, Charlotte, My’kah and Cameron during the hours leading up to and during Hurricane Dorian. The babies received special “hurricane” onesies to help make what could have been a stressful day for an expecting mom, a sweet and memorable moment.

The adorable hurricane onesies are a special surprise that some labor and delivery patients at Orange Park Medical Center receive on holidays and other special occasions. The onesies are made with pure love by one of Orange Park Medical Center’s Transition Nursery Nurses, Lauren Hodges. In her spare time, Hodges creates bassinet name cards to match the baby’s at home nursery and fun themed onesies to help the families celebrate their new addition.

The staff at Orange Park Medical Center sheltered in place at the hospital while Dorian battered the First Coast. The hospital says hurricanes cause low barometric pressure which can sometimes induce the rupture of the fetal membranes and can cause a woman to go into labor. Anytime a hurricane comes through the area they make sure their team is ready for any influx of patients.
